We are already in the sixth week of the New Year!
Being normal people, we thought about our dreams; we had fantasies, we had aspirations, and we set and wrote SMART goals.
Whichever group, you fall into, it is time to review the goals!
Why, you might ask?
First and foremost, reviewing helps us track our progress. When we regularly assess how far we’ve come and what we need to do next, we can identify areas that need improvement. Also, seeing the distance we have travelled, acts as a huge motivation, and inspires us to keep going.
Secondly, it facilitates us to be accountable.
Thirdly, it helps us to identify any roadblocks and develop strategies to overcome them.
So, how do we review and keep our goals in front of us?
The useful way to monitor, review and measure the goals is dividing them into – Outcome, Performance and Process Goals.
The outcome goal is specific and states the result you want to achieve – e.g lose one stone in six months, pass the exam on the first attempt.
The performance goal is based on the standards to achieve the results – e.g. for weight loss – exercise and diet will become your performance goals!
Or for passing an exam – study, practice, and tests!
The Process goal is the behaviours and strategies that will help us to improve the performance – e.g for weight – 30 minutes of exercise 5 days a week, eating daily only 1800kcal for next month, drinking 2l of water every day.
Or for passing an exam – studying one hour every day, doing a practice test paper every weekend.
It might be a good idea to monitor daily process goals, weekly performance goals and monthly outcome goals.
The most important step in reviewing the goals is DO NOT forget to celebrate your success 🙌. Take time to acknowledge and celebrate your wins, no matter how small you consider them to be. It helps you to be motivated and stay focused on your end goal.
So, start reviewing today and see the power it has to transform your life!
