We all grow up having role models in our lives. It is our parents, teachers and grandparents in the early stages of life. As our world expands, the role models grow. We have role models for our work, home life and hobbies. Sometimes, as we grow up, some role models cease to be our role models as well.

The power of having a role model is:

They inspire us.

They motivate us.

They help us to raise our standards.

We create and strive to reach the goals which are bigger than us.

Ultimately, they enable and empower us to become a better version of ourselves each day.

My role model is Mahatma Gandhi.

Mahatma Gandhi was born as an ordinary, introvert, shy Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.

He became a barrister at the age of 22 in London. When he returned to India, he couldn’t establish a successful law practice in India. He then went to South Africa to support a lawsuit. His life changed when he was thrown off a train after refusing to leave the first class carriage because of his skin colour. He started fighting for the rights of Indians in South Africa. When he returned to India, he joined the Indian National Congress and started fighting for Indian Independence. He chose truth, non-violence, and non-co-operation as his weapons. He achieved Independence for India without firing a single shot against the mighty British Empire.

The shy, introverted lawyer who found it difficult to cross-examine a witness, later learnt to communicate powerfully his thoughts not only to the entire nation but globally by leading the life of simplicity and walking the talk.

Mahatma Gandhi is my favourite role model of all time – for his simplicity, integrity and showing how a single man can make impact globally by believing in a cause which is bigger than him!

Who is your role model?

How do they inspire you?
